Get your due Justice

By Michael Lundberg | May 15, 2008

Justice CrossJustice is an electronic-dance music group made up of two guys from France. You may have heard their radio-friendly and very dance-able hit D.A.N.C.E. (the video is here). Today, I discovered this crazy video for their newest (?) single, Stress. The video starts up similar to Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” (ok, maybe that’s a stretch), but it quickly catches up with the frantic pace of the music and it’s namesake. Stress is controversial and quite the opposite of D.A.N.C.E.

You can find some of their other tracks on their MySpace page.

Enjoy:

Trailer: Monster Camp

By Michael Lundberg | May 14, 2008

Monster CampTrust me, you need to watch the preview for the documentary movie, Monster Camp. Monster Camp features NERO Seattle (NERO stands for New England Role playing Organization). Never heard of it? Me either. NERO is a kind of LARP (Live Action Role Playing game). Yup, I’ve never heard of it either, but these people are really, really (and I mean really) into it. My favorite quote from the trailer: “not all customers are bad, just the majority of them. And there are ones that are really, really bad.” Check it out.

I might have to check out this movie when it opens on May 9th, 2008. For more info:

New Video Alert: The Last of the Shadow Puppets

By Michael Lundberg | May 14, 2008

The Last of the Shadow PuppetsI’m probably the last person to discover this, but apparently, Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, has a side project with Miles Kane of The Rascals. The band is called The Last of the Shadow Puppets and their debut album, The Age of the Understatement, was released this week in the US on Tuesday, May 6th, 2008. They’ve already released a video for the first single, which I’ve embedded below. Some articles suggest that they were influenced by early Bowie, but I don’t hear it in their first single, but then again, my Bowie exposure picks up around Ziggy Stardust. Maybe the rest of the album expands on that influence. The first song is really good, and I’m anxious to get my hands on the rest of the album. I’m not familiar with The Rascals (or their previous band The Little Flames), but if you like the Arctic Monkeys, then you’ll like The Last of the Shadow Puppets. It’s like Arctic Monkeys, but with another singer with an even thicker British accent.

In some ways I really dig side-projects like The Last of the Shadow Puppets, but it’s also a bit frustrating to invest in a new band, only to later discover that they may never tour or have any follow-up albums. It’s also a bit surprising that Kane, the lead singer of The Rascals, would get involved with a side project that might take away exposure from his main band, especially when you consider that The Rascals’ debut album comes out in a few weeks on June 9th, 2008.

At the end of the day, you don’t want to over analyze it. Good music is good music, so shut up, sit back and enjoy the video:

PS - while searching the net for some other information on the Shadow Puppets, I found this little story. File this under interesting but useless news of the day (and yes, I realize that this little nugget is just a tad bit old): Justin Timberlake is rumored to be interested in teaming up with the Arctic Monkeys. As you can tell from above, I totally dig the Arctic Monkeys and I think a collaboration with Justin Timberlake could have some interesting results, though I can’t quite imagine what a “danced-up” Arctic-JT combo would sound like. Whatever it is, it just better not take more than four minutes. I jest. Ok, so maybe I have the new Madonna album. So what? Talk is out amongst yourselves.

Send files with Senduit

By Michael Lundberg | May 12, 2008

Senduit logoHave you ever tried to email a file to someone, only to have it bounce because you exceeded their maximum attachment size? Ever needed to borrow an FTP site for five minutes, just to transfer a file or two? If so, you’re in luck to today. Let me introduce you to Senduit.

Senduit is a great little service provide by the wonderful folks at Davidville (they’re the guys behind the wildly popular tumblr service). The Senduit website is elegant in its simplicity and rather than try to explain to you in my own words what it does, I’ll just borrow from the site:

Step 1: Upload your file

Step 2: Share your private link

That’s pretty much it. There’s a 100 mb limit which should be plenty for any “normal” user. You can also select a time for the link to auto-expire, anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 week. There’s no user accounts. There’s no passwords. You just upload your file, select an expiration time and distribute your link. Your link can be used an unlimited amount of times before it expires. Even though there’s no way to browse the uploads, it’s recommended that you don’t use Senduit for anything personal or confidential. Duh!

Senduit’s Privacy Policy is generous. Basically, your files are not saved, analyzed or reviewed. After a link expires, the file is automatically deleted from their systems. There’s some other legalese in their Terms of Service, but it’s standard stuff that looks like it’s mostly meant to protect Senduit from illegal filesharers.

Senduit is a useful, free, and anonymous temporary fileshare service. Bookmark the site and the next time you need to send your buddy a big file, give Senduit a try.

Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson rock the house

By Michael Lundberg | May 12, 2008

Willie NelsonAs if there weren’t enough reasons to love Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson already, the legends were captured in this ridonculous video performing in Amsterdam together last month. Yes, Snoop “D oh double G” and Willie crank out a little old fashion country song. I’m only caught wondering where in the world Snoop got those dope threads. I mean, he’s a big dude. And that… that… “ring”! It’s amazing - even in the country western outfit, Snoop still manages to look like a playa. And Willie? Willie is just Willie. No self respecting Texan can say anything negative about Willie. And why would you? He’s every bit as fly as Snoop.

Now, here’s a question for you… what in the world do you think could unite these two musical geniuses together on the stage? In Amsterdam. Seriously. I’ll let you guess three times and your first two guesses don’t count.

Be warned, there’s no video for the first 30 seconds, but just be patient - it’s worth it. ‘Till the next episode…

Preview Alert: Star Wars: The Clone Wars

By Michael Lundberg | May 12, 2008

Clone WarsFinally, the full trailer and movie poster for Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been released. I’ve embedded the flash version below, but seriously, do yourself a favor and be sure to check out the Quicktime version in HD (found here in 480p and 720p) - it’s far superior to the flash version. When is someone going to create a way to embed Quicktime movies instead of low-quality Flash movies? But I digress…

If you’ll remember, this movie is meant to kick off a brand spanking new CGI-animated weekly television series on the Cartoon Network that allegedly will start in late 2008. It seems more likely that the series will start sometime in the Spring of 2009, but we’ll have to wait for the official announcement. Notice from the trailer that the movie features voices from Anthony Daniels (the original C3P0 actor) and Samuel Jackson (as Mace Windu), which is a nice surprise. Set between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, the movie looks to explain the story behind Jabba the Hutt’s hatred of the Jedi, which appears to have something to do with his son’s kidnap, orchestrated by the future emperor, and his rescue attempt by the Jedi. Let’s hope that there’s a little Boba Fett thrown in for good measure.

It’s still somewhat disappointing that the series is CGI-animated and not just animated. It seems like the CGI animation is lacking in some detail, which I’m assuming is necessary in order to meet the release demands of a weekly TV series. I wasn’t expecting detail on par with a Pixar movie, but come on, this is Lucasfilms! Also, it’s unfortunate that Genndy Tartakovsky isn’t involved in this incarnation, though it looks like they’ve tried to maintain the look and mood that he originally set in the Emmy award winning Clone Wars micro-series.

Looking for the poster? You can find it here. If you still haven’t seen the teaser trailer, you can find it below, too:

New Music Alert: NIN

By Michael Lundberg | May 11, 2008

Nine Inch NailsIn case you’ve been living under a rock, Nine Inch Nails frontman, Trent Reznor, has been busy lately. Only a few short months ago (March 2, 2008, to be exact), Reznor released Ghosts I-IV, which he referred to as a “soundtrack for daydreams”. More importantly, this was Reznor’s first album since completing his contractual obligations with Interscope Records. In the absence of a contract, he was completely free to release his music under any license, in any format, through any venue. Luckily for us, he sold it direct to fans, in several formats (digital, physical, and limited edition), cutting out the record company middleman. A full download of all 36 tracks as 192Mbps mp3’s with album artwork pdfs costs only $5. Nice, eh?

As a follow-up to the much acclaimed Ghosts I-IV, on April 22nd, Nine Inch Nails released a new song, Discipline, made available via a free mp3 download at www.nin.com, which, in addition to the lyrics, included the cryptic words “Go to www.nin.com May 5th.” Approximately a week later, NIN released a second free mp3 recording, “Echoplex” via iLike.com, with the same cryptic phrase embedded in the mp3: “Go to www.nin.com May 5th.”

On May 5th, without any other additional announcements, press, or marketing, NIN released a full album, The Slip at www.nin.com. Amazingly, this completely new 10-track album is a free download. It is provided in several formats at www.nin.com with only the following comment:

(thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one’s on me)

It’s not known how long this download will remain available, but if you don’t have it, head over to the site and grab it NOW. Trust me, it’s good stuff. You can grab it at:

http://theslip.nin.com/

NIN has also since announced a tour. And yeah, I’ve already got my tickets for the Houston show on Saturday, August 16th. I’ll see you there.

The Foot Fist Way

By Michael Lundberg | May 11, 2008

Movie posterBelieve it or not, I can’t even remember how I found this video. I think I was looking at someone’s blog, which led to a link, which led to site, that didn’t have anything interesting, but somewhere, tucked on the second page was this video. I also have no idea who Adam McKay is (watch it, he’s referenced in the video), but he’s the co-writer and director of both Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. If you’ve never heard of those movies, I suggest you stop reading this right now and run to your nearest Best Buy (I’m a stockholder) and purchase a copy.

Knowing Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, it’s hard to know if The Foot Fist Way is just supposed to look low budget or if it really is low budget, but it looks funny. The tag line says it all: “The story of a man who teaches people how to kick other people in the face.” The movie comes out on May 30th. Watch it.

My favorite line from the trailer is from “King of the Demo” Fred Simmons: “I don’t think you’re going to like how this ends, hotshot.” And “Is she still alive?” I hope the movie is as good as the trailer. For fans of “red-band” trailers, you can find it at the official website: http://www.thefootfistway.com/

Enjoy.
