Want an easy $100?

By Michael Lundberg | August 25, 2007

Ok, I’m a sucker for contests and free money.  I’m even more of a sucker for contests that give away free money.  I was turned onto Becky S.’s Preblogging website (here) after she posted a comment to one of my earlier posts.  Since I’ve added her site to my blogroll, I’ve found many of her posts to be interesting and helpful (here’s one example).  Which is when I came across this post about winning $100.

Apparently, there’s this English bloke, Angel, living and working as a journalist in Southern Thailand.  Hmm.  Sounds interestingly enough.  Well apparently, being a journalist in Thailand doesn’t exactly pay the bills and he’s looking for new ways to supplement his income.  Ok, that makes sense.  So, he’s making the jump into what he calls the “Pro” blogging.  He eventually hopes to bring in four figure Google Adsense checks.  I can tell you from experience that this is no easy task.  However, I still believe that anyone who works hard enough can make some money being a blogger.  I’m not sure about four figure Google Adsense checks, but hey, it’s definitely possible.

Angel doesn’t have a whole ton of posts yet, so it’s difficult to determine what the focus of his site will be, but being a journalist, I’m sure that there’s no shortage of topics that he could write about.  I’m very curious to see how this experiment works out for him.  I’ll be pulling for him and I do plan on following his blog.

Let’s get to the meat, shall we?  How do you win the $100?  The contest details can be found here.  The requirements are:

  1. write a 50+ words about the contest on your own blog.  Include a link back to the contest post.  Check.
  2. stumble the contest.  I had to signup for Stumbleupon, but it’s a a free service and I really need to be submitting my own posts to Stumbleupon and Digg, so this is good motivation for me.  Check.
  3.  subscribe to the rss feed.  Check.

There you have it.  I’ll be one of probably hundreds that join the contest and there’ll be no way to tell if anyone actually wins, but it’s a good idea.  It’s definitely a good way to start building site traffic.  The contest ends on September 30th.  Since he’s English and living in Thailand, I’m not sure what the actual currency will be, but I assume it’s US dollars, but that’s only because I’m American.

I’ll be sure to let you know if I win.  If I do win, maybe I’ll reciprocate with a similar contest.

Thanks for the link back Michael ! I’ve checked and 100.00 Hong Kong Dollars is around USD$12, so hopefully it’s not in that currency ;)

@ Becky - wow, $12USD? Hopefully, it’s a little more than that. I have a bad habit of thinking in terms of the US when I’m browsing, but you just never know when you’re dealing with a Brit in Thailand on the internet.

I’ve left him a comment under the contest, asking for clarification, though I’m not sure if he’ll see it with all the other contest adds.

    Oh well, it’s still fun!

    Thanks,
