The Darjeeling Limited

By Michael Lundberg | October 2, 2007

I’ll admit it. I’m a fan of quirky and odd movies, and anyone who loves quirky movies is no stranger to Wes Anderson. For those that aren’t familiar with him, he responsible for movies such as Rushmore, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Royal Tenenbaums, and my favorite, Bottle Rocket. He also happens to hail from the great city of Houston, Texas.

Anderson has a new movie, The Darjeeling Limited, which went into limited release last weekend (September 29th, 2007) to mostly good reviews. Like most movies that I plan on seeing, I’ve avoided reading too much plot spoiling articles about The Darjeeling Limited. From what I gather, it’s a movie about three semi-estranged brothers, who take a train trip on the Darjeeling Limited thoughout India, as a way to reconnect with one another. The movie was written and directed by Wes Anderson and stars three equally quirky actors, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, and Owen Wilson. Schwartzman and Wilson have previously been in other Anderson movies. Brody seems slightly out of place, at least to me, in a movie like this, but I’ll reserve my judgment until I see the movie.Luckily for me and you, The Darjeeling Limited has a blog badge, very similar to the Superbad badge and you know how much I like blog badges as a way to promote cool and interesting movies. I’ve attached to preview below (rollover the itinerary and select video to see the trailer) :

There is also an accompanying prequel titled, “Hotel Chevalier”, which is a 13 minute mini-movie, also written and directed by Wes Anderson. Hotel Chevalier is currently available on iTunes as a free download. It stars Schwartzman and the always wonderful Natalie Portman. and supposedly portrays the events that leads up to the three brother’s spiritual journey that occurs in The Darjeeling Limited. If you are, like me, a fan of quirky movies, or especially Portman, I highly suggest you download this movie. Trust me on this. Seriously. If you have iTunes already installed, you can download Hotel Chevalier by clicking here. Did I mention it’s free and has Natalie Portman? For more info, check out:
