No Country for Old Men
By Michael Lundberg | October 27, 2007
I’ve posted several times about movies in the past, most recently, here and here. Once again, while browsing one of my favorite movie blog sites, Dark Horizons, I came across an ad for the upcoming movie, “No Country for Old Men.” The ad looked interesting and I thought that the movie title was… well, ominous. I hit the official site to find out more about the movie. It turns out that the cast and crew is absolutely top notch. The film is directed by the Coen Brothers, who are responsible for movies like, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, and, of course, O Brother, Where Art Thou. I’ll admit that I haven’t seen all of the movies by the Coen Brothers, but the ones that I have seen, I really like. The movie has a great cast, including Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and Woody Harrelson. It also stars an actor that I’ve never heard of, the very eerie looking Javier Bardem. Apparently, I don’t know my movies and actors as well as I thought I did, because even though he’s unknown to me, Mr. Bardem was previously been nominated for an Academy Award in 2001 for the movie Before Night Falls.
As it turns out, the movie is based on the 2005 book by the same name, by the American Author, Cormac McCarthy. Yeah, I’ve never heard of him, either, but according to Wikipedia, the movie takes place along the Texas-Mexico border. If he’s writing about Texas, he can’t be all that bad, right?
If you head over to the site, you’ll find 2 different “normal” trailers and a third red-band (ie rated “R”) trailer. Each trailer has a slightly different feel and gives you more insight into the movie - without giving away anything crucial. The red-band trailer, admittedly, has quite a bit more blood in it. Unfortunately, I can’t link directly to the movie trailers because the site is 100% flash (yuck!) and it doesn’t offer any Web 2.0 trailer embedding like some other movies I’ve blogged about, but okay, I won’t complain. When you watch the trailers (and I know that you will), be sure to listen for Javier Bardem say “call it… friend-o” and Woody Harrelson compare the villain to the bubonic plague. They’re just classic lines.
I’ve purposefully not read any of the plot synopses on the web because I don’t want to spoil the movie when it comes out on November 9th, but from what I’ve seen in the previews and the cast and crew, it looks really interesting. Go check out the trailers and let me know what you think.
