HelloTxt - a microblog aggregate

First off, Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Second, I came across an site called HelloTxt, which is a simple site that seeks to aggregate all of your microblogging sites (sites like Twitter, Pownce, and Jaiku, to name a few). You just login to HelloTxt and type your update once and HelloTxt takes care of propagating it to your other sites. It currently supports several of the more popular sites and some that I’ve never heard of:
- Pownce
- Jaiku
- Yappd
- Tumblr
- Meemi
- Beemood
- Gozub
- Frazr
You have to save your username and password into the site in order for this to work. This always makes me a little nervous, but it seems like a legitimate service and I’ve heard good things about it from other sources. Once you’ve registered your other microblog accounts into HelloTxt, updating them is a snap! You can even set it up to automatically update them all every time or select individual sites to receive each update.
I don’t consider a lack of RSS feeds to be a big deal since you can just point people to one of the feed provided by one of your other microblogs, but one shortcoming of HelloTxt is a lack of a mobile web client. I was unsuccessful in getting the HelloTxt site to come up on my Blackberry Curve, but it worked on my Apple iPhone. Your mileage may vary. I really like Twitter’s mobile web client and even though I like Pownce’s extra features, I keep coming back to Twitter. I like HelloTxt’s features and usability, but for me, the “killer feature” is mobile accessibility.
Blogging purists may wonder why you would want to update several blogs with the same content, but I have friends who use one service and not another, and HelloTxt makes it easy for me to provide updates to everyone at once. Because that’s just the kind of friend and social blogging addict that I am. And that’s important. Y’know?
