DeBeers Diamond Settlement

By Michael Lundberg | May 19, 2008

diamondsJust a friendly reminder: if you live in the United States, and you’ve purchased diamonds or diamond jewelry in the last 10 years, then you may be eligible to submit a claim under the Diamond Class Action Settlement. As part of the settlement, $295 million dollars (USD) was set aside by DeBeers that will be distributed to the claimants, based on the amount of diamond purchases in the covered time period. According to the website, it is impossible to determine how much (if any) each claimant will receive before all of the claims are processed.

It’s fairly easy to submit a claim via the website (here) and you don’t even need to submit any receipts or proof of purchase at the time the claim is made, unless you are submitting for a piece of jewelry costing over $10,000. You may be required to provide proof of purchase at a future date, so keep that in mind.

The deadline for submitting a claim is Monday, May 19th, 2008. Electronic claims must be submitted no later than 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time, May 19th, 2008. Full details and an FAQ can be found at https://diamondsclassaction.com/index.htm
