Santa Fe, Texas in the news again
By Michael Lundberg | May 23, 2008
Last Tuesday (May 20th), my famed alma mater, Santa Fe ISD, popped up in the news again and let’s just say it’s not for exemplary grades. Seriously, can’t my old Alma Mater catch a brake? On Tuesday, shortly after a fight broke out at Santa Fe Junior High School, school officials discovered nude photos of two Santa Fe Jr. High students on a classmate’s cell phone. The two girls had taken photos of themselves and forwarded them to their boyfriends, who in turn sent the photos to their friends. Upon learning that the photos had been emailed to other students in the middleschool, school officials began confiscating “dozens” of cell phones, deleting the nude photos, and in some cases, contacting parents’ to pick up their kids’ phones. Apparently, if you’re in Junior High, then you’re likely a minor (but not always - remember, this is Santa Fe we’re talking about here), which qualifies the photos as child pornography. Luckily for the kids, the school is treating this as a disciplinary issue and not a criminal issue.
If you’re not familiar with Santa Fe’s embarrassing history, you might check out these little gem of an article from way back in November 2000: link
Video links from Tuesday’s incident can be found here and here. The Houston Chronicle has a story here.
Hey, at least those kids weren’t as dumb as this knucklehead.
