Apple WWDC is Tomorrow (6/9/08)!
By Michael Lundberg | June 8, 2008
As if you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of months, I’ll remind you that the Apple WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) starts tomorrow (6/9/08), at San Francisco’s Moscone West. Steve Jobs, harbinger of all that is cool in IT, presents the opening keynote speech at 10:00am PST (or 12pm CST). The question on everyone’s mind is, “what will Steven announce this year (I mean, besides the 3G-capable iPhone)?” And what will be this year’s “one more thing…”?
So, a 3G-capable iPhone is practically a given. What else might be included in the iPhone 2.0? Some of the rumors include:
- GPS
- thinner enclosure
- more colors besides the ubiquitous “Apple black”
- an additional camera on the front of the phone for allow for video chat, courtesy of iChat
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess. One of my favorite Apple rumor sites is AppleInsider, and here are some of the non-iPhone related things that they’ve identified as possibilities:
- new version of Mac OS X (possibly Intel-only)
- new Apple multi-touch personal internet tablets (basically a larger version of the iPod Touch)
- a new and updated version of .Mac
- MacBook redesign
I’m sure that there’s tons of stuff that I’m leaving out, too.
Apple no longer provides a live stream of Steve Jobs’ keynote, but Engadget has been a nice substitute for me for the last couple of years. Ryan Block and company sit in the keynote auditorium and stream Steve’s comments live on their blog. Tune into it here (oh, once the keynote starts, remember to refresh the page often).
